Steven Chang is a Senior Advisor at McKinsey, specializing in Chinese Internet Ecosystem, digital transformation, marketing/advertising, new retail and eCommerce. He was formerly Corporate VP of Tencent, in charge of online media marketing solutions and advertising business of Online Media Group (OMG), and before, CEO of ZenithOptimedia Greater China
Previously as Corporate VP of Tencent (2014-2018), Steven was in charge of online media marketing solutions and advertising business of Online Media Group (OMG), which later turned into Advertising and Marketing Service (AMS), with a special eye on the alignment of Tencent Video, Mobile, Portal and Social Advertising for both brand and performance advertising. He was the early driver of programmatic advertising and DMP in Tencent, also in 2017 started to drive the ‘New Retail’ business with the IP and media ressource of Tencent. He has extensive client experience in many categories including Skincare/Cosmetics, Luxury, FMCG, Automobiles and Food & Beverages, both local and global brands, has been exploring new markets and clients in other countries, eg Japan and Korea in Asia, and UK and US, for business partnership and clients development.
In 1996, as one of the founders of ZenithOptimedia China (the first media agency launched in China), he played a key role in the company’s office and team setup and developed a wide array of international and local clients, including well-known brands in Skincare & Cosmetics(LOreal for 5 years), FMCG (P&G for 3 years), Luxury (LVMH for 8 years), Automobile (Shanghai GM for 17 years), Beverages (Coca-Cola for 5 years), Aviation, Finance, IT and other industries. In 2010, he was appointed CEO of ZenithOptimedia Greater China, responsible for the company development in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
In November 2017, Steven was nominated deputy director of the Internet Advertising Commission of China Advertising Association (CAA), as the role to ensure the standardization and scientific development of the Internet Advertising Commission in the fields of standard construction, industry discussion, trend research, technology exchange and other industries. In April 2018, Steven was nominated the advisory board member of NYU Shanghai and NYU Stern’s joint MS program in Data Analytics & Quantitative Finance.
