Roderick BUCHANAN

Roderick has spent his career in Retail. Starting at Tesco while a student Roderick  managed a number of stores around the UK and Ireland. In 2000 Roderick transferred to Tesco Head Office and worked across a number of departments, Supply Chain, Support Office, Distribution, Commercial and Marketing. In 2007 Roderick went to New York and was impressed with the Retail offer in the New York museums. This gave Roderick the idea to look for a role in the Cultural sector. In 2008 Roderick joined the British Museum Company as Director of Buying and Retail as time has moved on most of the Commercial activities now report into Roderick and is reflected in his role as the British Museum’s Commercial Director. Roderick started visiting China six years ago and saw there was an opportunity for the Commercial activities of the museum in China. Since 2017 the British Museum has had an active licensing programme in China with its exclusive partner Alfilo.
